Crab-walking To A Decision
Right - so I have four serious contenders - the Eee, a Macbook, the Dell XPS M1330 and the Sony Vaio TZ 31MN.

Macbook is hea-avy and I don't want an Air. Plus, there may be issues running my beloved Fall From Heaven Civ 4 mods, and that just won't do. Boot Camp may work fine, or it might not, but these are chances I don't want to take. The others come with Vista but I've found a place that sells XP Pro for £60 so I'll just dump Vista off whatever I get and stick on XP.

Asus Eee is £200 off the shelf down the town, I'll get one of those just to have.

Sony Vaio TZ gets good reviews as does the Dell XPS M1330.

There seems to be a strong force saying that the XPS is very comfortable to type on, this is good and important, however it is also heavier by some 50% and the Vaio is also getting good marks for comfort, if not quite the joysome squealings seen elsewhere. Battery life appears to be comparable.

Further research on the Sony and Dell have given me a terrible sinking feeling; a number of Dell users going 'ffs, problems but where's my tech support at this price?' while the sole poor Sony review was a 'machine kill event'.

Reading on... the Dell gets 83mins on Cnets 'battery eater test' compared to 180 for the Sony - and that looks like enough info for me. I think... maybe...

I bought one a few months ago and it's been an absolute godsend.
They keyboard is awkward as fuck for two weeks. Now it's comfier than a regular laptop.
